Maxter is a 2 1/2 year old Rottie/Hound Mix, 71 lbs.

"Max" has been living with his foster family for several months now and has come a LONG way.  He currently lives with 4 other permanent dogs (rottie/lab-100+ lbs, lab/hound mix, blue heeler, and terrier mix-30 lbs) and has had the pleasure of meeting 2 short-term fosters (lab mix and red heeler mix) that have come and gone in his foster home.  He also lives with 3 human girls, ages 12, 13 & 14 who are very dog savvy, as they know dog behaviors and respect dog boundaries.

Max is a very happy guy and loves his people, as well as his canine pals.  He is playful, loyal and protective. He is very smart and cannot be crated as he will find a way out.  However, he is not destructive as long as he is not left completely alone (he will need to go to a home with another dog or 2 or 3 or....). He knows basic commands (sit, shake, lay down, roll over), loves going for rides, does pretty well on a leash and is trained on an invisible fence system.  He LOVES to sleep in bed (a habit that may be hard to break) and gives kisses once he trusts you.

What You Need to Know about Max: Max will need someone with Rottie experience or someone who will take the time to research a very unique characteristic about Rottweilers that not many people know or can handle.  Max has what some call the "Rottie Rumbles" or a "Rottweiler Purr", which means that he growls when he is petted or rubbed.  Sometimes, the better it feels to them, the nastier their growls and snarls will get.  Some will even curl their lip and look like they are going to bite your arm off.  To many people this is VERY intimidating. Because of Max's trust issues, it will take time for him to fully trust and bond with a new owner, which can also be intimidating with his "growls and grumbles".

Max is NOT cat friendly at all.
Max has a higher prey drive - so his foster recommends a home with NO small dogs (nothing under 25 lbs) and No small animals (birds, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, chickens, ferrets, or cats).
No Children under the age of 12.
Another Dog is a must - preferably one with the same energy level/size or larger.
Rottie experience preferred.

Maxter may have a story and a past but he also a dream and a future.
