Poster

Make a poster with the dog's photo and information like your phone number, location lost, dogs name and other pertinent information.

Put the poster in front of your house and in your car window.

Hang posters in the area the dog went missing or was found.

Give posters to mail carrier, Fedex, UPS, or other delivery people who frequent the area.

Get a picture of the dog. If able, get a picture of the dog from the chest up; do not reveal what gender the dog is in the picture. If you do not have a digital camera, if possible, an H2H representative may come and take the picture to circulate through our network of animal loving friends to see if someone recognizes the dog

FOUND DOGS

A. Do not give detailed information about the dog, so the owner can give you proper identification. (e.g. black dog found in Timbuktu area). The actual owner will be able to tell you if it is male, female, neutered, collar, markings etc.

B. When posting ads on public forums such as Facebook or craigslist try using an email address instead of a phone number.  Facebook messages get shared A LOT and sometimes the number of calls becomes overwhelming.  Also, be very careful with Craigslist.  There are several people that will show up to claim a dog that is NOT theirs. These people generally will NOT take care of the dog and could bring harm to the dog.  Require proof of ownership

LOST DOG

A. Be as descriptive as possible. Let people know what your dog’s personality is like, ie will he come when called, run away from people, hide somewhere, jump in a car easily, come running for a particular type of toy, etc. Post recent pictures whenever possible.

B. When calling rescues/shelters/finders, be prepared to show proof that the dog is yours.  This could be a photo of your dog, vet records, county license, etc.

C. Post photos to Facebook.  There are several lost found groups including Get Me Home Again, Find Toby in PA, Lost/Found of Union/ Snyder County.  There are also several yard sale and other group pages with many followers.

D. Post to Craigslist.  Post a picture and full description to Craigslist.

E. Make sure your contact information on Microchips or County Licenses are current.  If not, call and update immediately.

F. Be prepared to show proof of ownership.  This is not to keep your dog from you, but to protect your lost dog and every other lost dog from getting into the hands of the wrong people.
