Shepherd / Mixed : : Male : : Young : : Medium
This boy is AWESOME. That's what everyone who meets him says! Zeek is a wonderful male Shepherd mix who is approximately 1 1/2 years old. He has a personality that is as outstanding as his looks. Zeek was abandoned. He found a farm that took him in and kept him warm and well cared for over the cold months.
His rescuers say he loves to run and play with their children and he "is a smart dog". He responds readily to commands given by rescuer. This dog just wants to please and be loved. He is friendly with strangers and no aggression of any kind has been seen. He rarely barks and keeps a silent vigil around the farm. He will have all his shots and be neutered prior to adoption. Won't you give this guy the loving home he deserves to have. Zeek seems to be a stick around dog--would probably enjoy a home with space for him to run in play. However, even though he would love a lot of space to run and play with his owners--he must have an INDOOR home so that he can be the loyal companion he is meant to be. UPDATE: Zeek attended his first Adoption Event and was the star. Just loved everyone and exceptional with the kids who were hugging him. UPDATE 2: Zeek's latest update: (Unbelievable and yet believable) from Foster Mom
Cooper (my pup) and Zeek are inseparable. They play, wrestle and just a little while ago Cooper was eating and Zeek put his nose in the dish and took a bite. Then he gave a low growl so I called Cooper over. Zeek stopped eating to. Here comes the awesome update: I brought one of the bowls of food upstairs so I can keep an eye on who eats, and who doesn't. I set it in front of Zeek and offered him some out of my hand - which he took. Cooper was standing close to the bowl watching Zeek eat. Finally, Cooper laid down facing the bowl and Zeek. Zeek stopped eating laid down and . . . . . . . Pushed the bowl to Cooper with his nose. I was speechless. TOTALLY speechless. They both laid there looking at each other until I moved - then they moved. Is that a God Sighting or what? ?? That also sends the message loud and clear that this is not a 'regular' dog. He is smart and wise and all good things. He has settled into our routine's and life very well. He's better than a "good boy" and he's handling all the trauma's in his life very well.
He won't eat unless I stay with him. I've hand fed him several times and he always takes the food out of my hand gently. Very gently.
UPDATE 3: Zeek was evaluated by a certified trainer. He received a 9.6 out of 10 - a very high value for any dog--especially so for a dog who has been on his own. Zeek was great on a leash, took treats like Prince, and was eager to learn. Zeek has shown some aggression towards cats on the farm--but our trainer believes that this could be cured with some training. From the trainer: "In addition to evaluating, we did some training. He is a rockstar. Very intelligent, willing (I mean WILLING)to please, eager to learn and very focused. He learned sit, down, touch, focus, food bowl ritual and the food lure within twenty minutes. He was a joy to work and he really enjoyed working. He is not stubborn, at all. He looked at me the whole time saying, "what do you want me to do next? Zeke is a very capable dog. I cannot think of much he could not do. I really liked this dog. Great temperament, bright, healthy, willing to listen and learn, one year old and a looker to boot.
