About Lehman

  • General Color: Yellow
  • Current Size: 65 Pounds
  • Current Age: 11 Years (best estimate)

Lehman is a handsome, young, lovable fellow that came to us as a stray.  He's a yellow lab (mix?) who is under 2 years old and weighs 65 pounds.  He will be a wonderful dog in a lively home.  He has a lot of great lab qualities like happy, waggy, silly and friendly. He thinks he is a giant lap dog and when in the house he wants to be glued to you. When on a walk he can't resist jumping in the mud puddles. Lehman likes car rides and is learning he is not a lap dog and can't ride on your lap while you are driving so we are still working on getting him to ride in the backseat like a gentleman.

He has been staying at our holding kennel where he is getting a lot of attention from the voluneers. He greats each person quite happily. We do feel with his energy level and enthusiasm that a home WITHOUT children would be best.  He has made frequent outings with kennel volunteers where he interacts with the dogs there in a home setting and also goes on outings to parks.   He has been great with the dogs he has had a chance to play with so far.  He has learned manners and obedience and sits for his meals and to get out of his kennel.  He readily knows sit and down commands and is quite willing to work for cheese or hot dog bites.  His leash manners have improved greatly and he is especially laid back on walks on warm days.  Obedience training continues with him.

One of our kennel volunteers noted: "Lehman needs an experienced, strong leader.  He very much acts like a 3-month old puppy in a 2-year old dog's body - which means he jumps, mouths, and chews up his blankets.  He needs consistency and TRAINING.  Probably not a dog for anyone with young kids around, but for someone who gets out there and exercises a lot -- Lehman wants to be your new best friend!!!"

Lehman will still need a home with someone who is able to provide him security and leadership, who will continue to work with his training, and be willing to invest some time to make him the great dog and companion that he has the potential to be.
