Shepherd / Mixed : : Male (neutered) : : Senior : : Large
Barney is a shepherd mix who weighs just over 50 pounds. He is quite handsome with a short, but thick and full, mostly black coat with tan/brown feet, chest, nose, and eyebrows. He is estimated to be 8-10 years old. Barney's owner passed away in June and he was sent to live outside, tied to a barn. One of our volunteers found out about him and knew that Barney would make a great companion in a new forever home. She has taken him to her home to foster and reports that he is a good dog. He is not a guard dog so don't expect a bark with the doorbell. In fact, he may not hear very well, but responds to the hand signal for come. He walks great on a leash with absolutely no pulling and is a stick around kind of guy in the yard. He has proven to be great with everyone and everything including kids, other dogs and cats. There have been no accidents in the house since an initial one or two when he first arrived and he will whine when he has to go outside to relieve himself. Barney rides well and enjoys car rides, although he may need a boost to get into a vehicle as he is not much for jumping onto furniture or into the car. Barney doesn't play with toys, but loves treats, and is very low-maintenance. His worst trait may be some occasional food scavenging if something is left in his reach---but hey, who can blame a guy for trying!? Barney was seen by our vet and was a complete gentleman for the exam, including blood work, vaccines, and nail trimming. He did test positive for Lyme Disease and has been treated for that. He is neutered and vaccines are updated. As with all dogs in our care, he was tested for parasites (was negative), and is now on heartworm preventative. Barney really wants a companion that he can spend a lot of time with. When his foster family leaves him home alone, he has access to an outdoor run with his canine companions and does fine. Barney is truly a sweet older gentleman. He is a KEEPER and deserves a great home for his remaining years More about BarneyGood with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ Click here for the ADOPTION APPLICATION if you are interested in adopting this pet.
