Rescue ~ Rehab ~ Rehome

Ace is a one year old Aussie Shephard/Blue Heeler mix.  He weighs about 50-55 lbs, is neutered, housetrained, and gets along well with kids, cats, and dogs.  He's a very happy boy and loves attention.  Ace finds himself in need of a more active, attentive home.  His owner got him as an 8 week old puppy, but when things got busy for the owner, Ace went to live with family members who just can't provide the attention Ace needs. 

From our evaluator:  Ace has a lot of energy and needs a home with an owner who can have him run daily, a fenced in yard where exercise is easy and safe, or a farm where he can work but still live inside.  Ace currently lives on several wooded acres and behaved very well off leash in the yard, following me around as I called to him to come with me.  He is not a runner and learned his boundaries quickly.  He knows sit and come, but could use some work on a leash walking.   He is very people focused and is looking for direction.  I think Ace would benefit tremendously from dog training!  An obedience class with a new owner would not only provide a training, but a bonding experience and socialization.

Ace is a bit too exuberant when people come to the door with jumping and excitement.  He calms down but it takes about 15 minutes.   He sleeps on the floor and hasn’t been interested in a dog bed (owner said he never took to a bed so they put it away).  He goes and stands by the door when he wants to go out.  He likes everyone! 

His owner has a beauty shop in the home, so Ace has been introduced to many people, with people constantly in and out.  He can get protective of his older sister dog and will nip if non family members/visitors give the other dog too much attention but he stops when you move away….he needs some training to stop this behavior as it is annoying.  He was never crate trained.  Ace can be is a chewer when he gets bored.  But, HEY - he's still a puppy.  Ace needs to be provided with safe chew toys.

Ace’s energy can be described as HIGH but during our 45 minute evaluation and vist, he also rested quietly on the floor at times.  He isn’t insanely and randomly active but he clearly wants to play, bringing toys to toss and enjoying pets and cuddling on the couch.  

Ace loves to ride in the car and truly enjoys time with his family.  He will make someone a very good family companion but he needs some training.  He is a good medium size dog.
