Nash is a chocolate lab or lab mix found abandoned in icy frigid conditions in December 2008. He was 25 pounds underweight, running on three legs--probably only a few days away from dying from exposure and starvation. Two wonderful ladies captured him after trying for a week to get close to him. He is the most lovable, gentle, well-mannered boy, estimated to be about 3 years old. He is housebroken, has wonderful manners, gets along with other dogs, loves car rides, walks nicely on a leash, and is good with children. His left rear leg was unusable when rescued and was atrophied; he has been in foster for two months and is using his leg and regaining some muscle. The vet says he needs a Femoral Head Ostectomy to relieve the pain in his hip and give him more mobility. Update June 15: Nash had his surgery on April 28 and is doing very well. He is using his leg again and is enjoying life with his foster brothers and family. Although the Femoral Head Ostectomy alleviates the bone on bone pain that Nash suffered, it does create an unstable leg due to the head of the femur being removed. Nash continues to take arthritis medication to alleviate any residual pain from his surgery and to help his hip dysplaysia. Nash will be required to maintain a lower weight throughout his life to compensate for the loss of skeletal integrity. Nash loves belly rubs, car rides, and "food" which needs to be limited. He has such a happy smile. Nash is extremely well behaved indoors and wants to please. He enjoys romping in the fields and woods with his foster brothers and thinks it is his duty to check out the groundhog holes each morning. It is apparent from his demeanor that he has been abused at some point in his life. He hides if he sees a broom, fly swatter, or hears a loud noise.
