Lincoln is a 9 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Coton de Tulear mix who was born at a large commercial breeding facility. Sadly he contracted Glaucoma at 8 months of age and has gone blind. He was relinquished to Haven to Home Rescue in hopes of finding him a home that would provide him with a safe and loving environment and a friendly canine companion who can act as his "guide". His one eye has gone blue and had to be removed. At this point his other eye seems to be responding well to daily eyedrops which keeps the eye pressure within a normal range. It is possible that he can see shadows.
Lincoln is learning his way around his foster home where he gets to interact with many dogs on a daily basis. He loves to play in the yard with his foster mom and his canine companions (see video on front page). Lincoln is incredibly sweet and gentle and loves to be cuddled and held. He does not like a lot of noise; often finding a quiet place to hide when there is too much commotion.
Lincoln is a very special little guy. He would be a gentle loving companion. Though he may not be sighted - his other senses are heightened which allows him to adapt to a home environment. Lincoln can live a normal life. Please take him into your heart and home.
A chip in account has been started (main page of our website) to collect funds to help defray the cost of his scheduled surgery.
UPDATE: Lincoln had his left eye removed on 5/28/2014. His foster mom reports that he is doing great. Lincoln will be ready for a new home within the next 10 to 14 days. This little guy needs a stable forever home (preferably one floor or a home where stairs can be blocked if necessary) where he can live a normal life and enjoy canine as well as human companionship. Lincoln would like a canine playmate and particularly enjoys other spaniels. He needs a fenced in yard so that he can explore safely. He loves to go outside and play in the grass. He is the BEST!
Applications are the first step in the adoption process. Please do not call or email simply to express interest. We are all volunteers and receiving your application saves us time and helps to determine the best match for both people and dogs.
We provide as much information as we currently have on each dog in their description. For questions on the adoption process, including fees, please review the Adoption page. If you have additional questions or are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application. Once we receive your application someone will be in touch to answer your questions.
We do not arrange visits to meet dogs without an application. If you'd like to meet a variety of dogs without filling out an application please attend one of our events, listed under the events link.
Thank you!
