Tanner is a handsome 9 year old golden retriever/collie mix. He came to us because his owner is losing her home. Tanner has the kindest eyes. He has lived with cats and has been around children. He is presently in a foster home with two other dogs and a cat and he's doing very well. Lots of changes for this sweet guy in just a short period of time. Tanner is neutered and up to date with vaccines. He shows no signs of arthritis due to aging. You wouldn't know that he is 9 years old. He has a silky hair coat and doesn't seem to shed much. He rides very well in a car. This guy is looking for a home where he can be a loving, loyal, gentle companion for the rest of his life.
From His Foster Dad: We crated Tanner for about a week when he first came to the house, and he did just fine. As far as I could tell he didn’t carry on (bark or try to chew himself out) when we left the house. Since then, we have not crated him while we have been gone from the house (6:30 am – 4:30 to 5:00p on workdays) and we have not had any issues—no accidents, no damage (just evidence that he’s been resting comfortably on the sofa). I will say, however, that once he hears the garage door going up, be begins barking. He is ready to go outside and he is not shy about letting you know.
Tanner is quickly picking up his manners and some basic commands. Sometimes he forgets to slow down when going out to or coming in from the backyard, and he likes to make himself a bed on the sofa when no one’s around (a no-no as far as I’m concerned), but he is very smart and learns more every day. Tanner can be a sneaky counter surfer, but sure this can be remedied in time. He does have moderate energy level so would benefit and enjoy a daily walk or two. While Tanner may be considered a senior base on his age, you cannot tell it by his behavior. He is spry and happy. He’ll chase a ball when you throw it, he just doesn’t yet know to bring it back. If he thinks he’s been invited, he’ll promptly spring into bed with you. Then, after being told to get down, he’ll sleep peacefully at the foot of the bed. But, more than anything, especially in the evenings, all he wants to do is lay his head in your lap and be petted. Tucker has a great personality, and he is as sweet as they come…someone will be lucky to have him.
